The opportunity
Are you a health and safety expert looking for a new opportunity? 

If so, you could be the Senior Health and Safety Adviser we need to take a leading role in implementing some effective H&S Management systems. 

About the role


As Senior Health and Safety Adviser you will work closely with our shops and stores to encourage incident/accident and near miss reporting for compliance. You'll also work to raise awareness and maintain a safe working environment for all our staff.

We're fully committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of out staff, volunteers, contractors and customers and in this role you'll contribute to the BHFs internal wellbeing programme "Live Well, Work Well". This helps to maintain the health and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers. This position will also support the Health and Safety Manager (Retail) in delivering risk reduction projects and developing our overall H&S Culture.

About you

With a qualification in general Health and Safety law and practice to at least NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent, you'll have a minimum Grad IOSH status and will be working towards or a commitment to achieve CMIOSH in the near future.

You'll have a comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation and effective best practice as it applies within the Retail environment. You will have demonstrable experience of working in a health and safety discipline, preferably in Retail and a geographically dispersed organisation.

To be successful in this role you'll have the following skills and experience:
Experience of working with staff at all levels
Practice of developing and implementing safety systems, policies, guidelines and processes
Experience of investigating incidents, accidents and other safety matters to take learning and give advice on preventative measures to minimise/eliminate hazards
Excellent initiative skills, able to take a project brief and execute
A passion for pragmatic and proportionate health and safety
Excellent influencing and leadership skills
Excellent communication skills
The ability to build trust and communicate effectively to people of all different technical abilities

Please note this is a home-based position, but you will be expected to work 1 day a week in our Northampton office. Travel to our London head office will also be required at times.
