People & Organisational Development Image

The People and Organisational Development team of more than 90 delivers a full human resources and volunteering service, learning and development, internal communications, facilities management and health and safety.

Everyone, whatever their role, is committed to making the British Heart Foundation somewhere we can all be happy and proud to work.

And it’s a fantastic time to join them. Kerry Smith, Director of People & Organisational development, was recognised as in HR magazine's annual HR Most Influential list in 2018 and we are focused on becoming a world class employer and place to volunteer by 2020. We’ve signed up to the Talent Tech Charter – a commitment to drive diversity in technology roles – and are the only organisation praised as a case study in the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s (CIPD) Health & Wellbeing at Work Survey Report (2018). You can be part of helping us realise that achievement.

What the team say

  • RupertRecruitment Advisor

What drew you to the BHF?

I aspired to work here due to the charity’s size and reach, and I knew that the BHF would support me to grow professionally. Also, like so many, my family has been affected by heart disease, so I wanted to join the fight.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The amazing people I get to work with and the variety. No two days are the same. My role spans the organisation so I get a fascinating insight into all the incredible work that the BHF does.

What inspires you in your working life?

Knowing that I am helping the BHF to work towards our mission by recruiting people who are committed to continuing our work.

  • SueVolunteering Manager

What attracted you to the BHF?

When I first joined BHF in 2011 as an Area Manager in Retail, I was attracted by the opportunity to use my retail experience in a charity setting. Working with the shop managers and their teams of volunteers, and seeing what was being achieved, opened up a whole new dynamic for me and it was then I moved into volunteer management.

    What inspires you?

The work that our volunteers do to support the charity and their local community is truly inspirational. I want to help to make it as easy as possible for people to carry out their volunteering and feel recognized for what they do and for their managers to support them in a way that’s is right for them and for the BHF.

Three words to describe working life at the BHF?

    Inspiring. Exciting. Motivating.
