If you’re starting out in your career or looking for a change in career, you might not know exactly what you want to do yet. But perhaps you do know you want to make a difference. We offer a wealth of career opportunities so you can start to shape your professional life.

Whether you’re a tech whizz, are innovative, creative and have a way with words, or want to develop a career in retail, we’ll nurture your talent and show you what it’s like to have a job that really matters.

British Heart Foundation has a history of running graduate programmes in several different teams.

Applications for our Graduate Scheme 2024 are now open!

Technology

We offer several innovative graduate schemes in our ambitious Technology directorate. At the forefront of IT and digital solutions we assist the smooth running of our charity.

Our graduate schemes will equip you with the skills and knowledge to become a technology professional. Through our programmes you’ll develop and acquire experience in software engineering, information security and testing. You’ll also gain exposure in other areas of our technology team, including development, delivery, and quality assurance. These experiences will help you to develop key and important skills vital for a career in Technology.

With a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) we’re looking for people with excellent problem-solving skills, project management, customer focus, stakeholder management and a passion for learning and developing.

Graduates

Retail

In this innovative graduate scheme in our Retail directorate, you’ll work in our fast paced, customer facing, Retail team and support different departments and teams in delivering projects to meet business needs. This will include our online platform, we’re the largest charity eBay site in the world, as well as playing a leading role in supporting the work in our different shop formats, Fashion and Home.

Over 2022-23, we sold over 55,000 tonnes of donated items, including nearly 190,000 sofas, nearly 4.4 million books and over 10 million items of clothing. The items we reuse and recycle have a significant positive environmental impact, enabling lower greenhouse gas emissions and reducing pressure on natural habitats for raw materials.

This scheme will provide you with the opportunity to develop a career within a fast paced and ambitious retailer and give you the tools and experience to quickly move through the programme and lead your own team as an Area Manager after 2 years.

People and Organisational Development

Our People and Organisational Development (POD) graduate scheme offers you the opportunity to experience and work in a range of POD teams, for example our HR and Talent and OD teams, within one of the UK’s largest charities.

This programme isn’t a theoretical training exercise; you’ll make a real impact on major projects and teams across the directorate whilst you’re developing your communication, team working, leadership and project management skills. In addition to learning on the job, you’ll have a BHF mentor and will attend action learning style events with your fellow graduate peers.
