We are looking for a talented individual to lead our Internal Audit and Compliance department.
About the role
As the Head of Internal Audit and Compliance, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding our company's assets and reputation.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing the Internal Audit Strategy and delivering the annual audit programme for both the risk-based audit and compliance audit programmes as agreed with the Audit & Risk Committee.
Your insights and recommendations with support from our internal audit co-source partner, will drive strategic decision-making and enhance our overall risk management framework.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the internal audit function, including planning, execution, and reporting on the risk based and retail audit programmes.
- Leading and supporting the Compliance function in delivering compliance audits, the internal policy framework, assurance mapping and counter fraud programme.
- Developing and implementing BHFs Internal Audit Strategic Plan.
- Preparing and presenting audit findings and recommendations to our Executive Group and the Audit & Risk Committee.
- Identifying and assessing potential risks and providing actionable recommendations to mitigate them.
- Proactively supporting the Senior Leadership team and Retail Leadership team to help create a culture of excellence where we consistently look for ways to learn, innovate and continuously improve.
About you
We are looking for someone with a qualification in Internal Audit or Accounting. You’ll have previous experience working in internal audit within a charity or retail environment.
As a member of the Senior Leadership team, you’ll be comfortable writing reports and presenting to at Board level.
With in-depth knowledge of risk based internal auditing techniques, you’ll have a good understanding on charity related compliance requirements, including counter-fraud.
To succeed in this role you will have:
- Proven experience in internal audit and compliance, preferably in a leadership role.
- A strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, able to build strong working relationships and influence
- The ability to manage and resolve conflict.
- A relevant qualification (e.g. CIA, MIIA, AAT, ACCA, CIMA)
Working arrangements
This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and 2-days per week, on average, in our London office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

Interview process
