For more than 60 years, British Heart Foundation (BHF) has been at the forefront of cutting-edge research to save and improve millions of lives. Despite the progress we’ve made, our work has never been more needed; heart and circulatory diseases remain the biggest killers globally, with millions of people living with these conditions today in the United Kingdom alone. Our lifesaving work is primarily advanced through long-term investment in medical research, and we currently have over £460 million of BHF-funded research underway. Powered by an incredible team of volunteers, colleagues, supporters, partners, and scientists, we are more ambitious and determined than ever with potential cures and treatments we need now in sight.
Our vision is a world where everyone has a healthier heart for longer , and our pioneering research transforms the lives of millions of people in the UK and across the world. A leading independent funder of research into heart and circulatory diseases, we are the UK’s largest charity retailer with around 650 stores, an employee base of over 4,000, supported by a further 20,000 volunteers. With over £460 million of BHF-funded research in progress, we have an aspiration to invest in excess of £1 billion in research by 2030.
We are now seeking an exceptional individual to join our Board of Trustees and serve as Chair of the Remuneration & People Committee. This is a pivotal governance role at the heart of the organisation, supporting our Chief Executive and Executive Group in delivering our strategy, and ensuring strong oversight of remuneration, people, and culture.
To succeed in this role, you will bring extensive senior leadership experience in large, complex organisations, ideally as an HR Director or equivalent. You will have a proven ability to lead cultural and change management programmes, together with in-depth knowledge of human resources and people issues, including remuneration, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and risk. With this expertise, you will have the authority and insight to guide the Remuneration & People Committee in shaping governance, strategy, and oversight of people-related matters.
Most importantly, you will share our commitment to BHF’s mission and values and bring the passion and expertise to help us transform even more lives. This is a rare opportunity to join one of the UK’s most impactful charities at Board level and play a critical role in helping us on our vision, a world where everyone has a healthier heart for longer.
