  • The opportunity

  • As a Senior Internal Auditor at the British Heart Foundation, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact. Your work will help safeguard the integrity of one of the UK’s most trusted charities, ensuring we deliver on our mission to save lives. In this role, you’ll lead audits, coordinate external providers, and shape the annual audit plan, all while maintaining a strong risk-based approach.

You’ll work closely with senior leaders to embed a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement, while providing independent assurance to our Executive Directors and Trustees. Your expertise will strengthen our three lines of defence model and help us stay ahead in a fast-changing environment.

This is your chance to use your talent for something bigger. Join a team where your contribution makes a real difference to people’s lives.

    About you

You’ll have a professional qualification in Internal Audit or Accounting (such as CIA, MIIA, AAT, ACCA, or CIMA) or significant experience in internal audit and be working towards certification.

You’ll understand management processes across Finance, IT, HR, Retail, and CRM systems, and have strong knowledge of risk-based auditing techniques, testing, and sampling. A good grasp of risk management principles is essential.

You’ll bring experience in risk-based internal audits, ideally in a charity setting, and be confident in investigations, evidence gathering, and writing clear reports for senior management. Experience in compliance, operational, security, and health & safety audits is a bonus, as is mentoring colleagues.

Personally, you’re highly professional, with integrity and independence in your judgments. You’re a strong communicator, able to build relationships at all levels, and a self-starter who manages workload effectively while working well in a team.

You’re analytical, inquisitive, and determined, with a can-do attitude and the ability to resolve conflict. Strong IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) are essential, and you’re committed to continuous learning and development.

    Working arrangements

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

    About us

    Interview process

There will be a two-stage interview process:
    •  1st stage w/c 5th January 26 will be held virtually over MS Teams
    •  2nd stage w/c 12th January 26 will be held at our London office
