We have a 6-month opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team, backfilling a team member and supporting the delivery of several organisational projects and initiatives
About the role
As a Senior Financial Accountant, you'll work closely with the Financial Accountancy Manager and team to provide technical accounting support.
You'll work in a variety of areas covering our balance sheet and statement of financial activities, which could include charity or commercial income recognition, investments, cashflow, VAT, reconciliations and support various finance projects across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Complex technical accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Contributing to financial control functions, including supplier payments and month-end processes.
- Providing technical advice to non-finance staff and support BHF project activities.
- Supporting with our finance systems transformation project.
- Supporting with the interim external audit.
- Ad hoc support as required such as quarterly VAT preparation and SORP 2026 transition work.
About you
We are looking for a CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant. You'll have relevant experience in the not-for-profit sector, including knowledge of Charity SORP and charity tax. You'll be a proficient user of accounting systems and possess strong analytical and reconciliation skills.

- be a CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant
- be intellectually curious with strong analytical skills and advanced MS Excel knowledge
- be a problem solver and work well under pressure
- work well independently and as part of a team
- be resilient and able to prioritise in a demanding and changing environment
- have great relationship building skills and strong communication skills
Experience with Dynamics 365 F&O, professional practice and/or audit would be advantageous but is not essential.
Working arrangements
Please note this is a 6-month fixed term contract opportunity, backfilling another member of the team.
This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

Interview process
The interview process will consist of two stages. First stage interviews will be held over MS Teams on Thursday 20th of August.
For those successful, there will be second stage interviews either in-person at our London Office (NW1 7AW) or via MS Teams on Thursday 27th of August.
